Delta’s Changing Up the Names—Here’s What You Need to Know

Starting this fall, Delta’s rolling out a new way to name and book its flights. If you’re planning travel on or after October 1, you’ll start to see some changes on Delta’s site and app.

First off, the names of the cabins are getting cleaned up:

  • Main Cabin is now just Delta Main

  • Comfort+ is now Delta Comfort

  • First Class becomes Delta First

  • Delta One and Premium Select keep their names

But the bigger change is how you book. Each seat type will now come with different "experiences"—called Basic, Classic, or Extra—which basically means you’ll need to pay more for flexibility and perks.

For example, if you book Delta Main, here’s what that might look like:

  • Basic is like today's Basic Economy—no seat choice, no Sky Club, and no miles or MQDs.

  • Classic gets you seat selection, earns miles and MQDs, and gives you more change options.

  • Extra offers more perks, including easier refunds and higher mileage earning.

Higher cabins like Delta Comfort and Delta First will offer Classic and Extra too—with better perks and more flexibility the higher you go.

Keep in mind: once you book, you can’t change your experience level. You can upgrade your seat (like moving from Main to Comfort), but you can’t go from Basic to Classic unless you cancel and rebook.

Bottom line: Delta’s giving you more control, but you’ll want to pay close attention to what you’re actually getting with each fare—especially when you’re using points or trying to earn status.

More choices are good… if you know what to look for.
